Delhi Dispute Resolution Society (Regd.) is the first inititive of its kind in the entire country taken by Department of Law, Justice & Legislative Affairs for introduction of Alternate Dispute Resolution processes especially Mediation and Conciliation to not only matters pending before Courts, Consumer Forums and such other bodies but also in respect of pre-litigation cases. The parties before taking legal recourse to Courts, Police, etc. are encouraged to approach the various Mediation Centres which have been set up in different parts of Delhi for settlement of their disputes amicably.
Article 39A of the Constitution of India obligates the State “equal justice and free legal aid and ensures that justice is not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities”
To meet the above commitments, Delhi Govt., under the Department of Law, Justice& L.A., formed a Society namely “Delhi Dispute Resolution Society” under the Society Registration Act, 1860 and came into existence on 27th November 2009.
Mediation as an Alternate Dispute Resolution mechanism is a simple and a voluntary process in which an impartial and neutral mediator tries to bring together the disputant parties to arrive at a mutually agreeable solution. Mediation is an effective tool for the self-empowerment of the people and also for promoting Social harmony. Realizing the potential of mediation in providing quick, cheap and mutually acceptable solutions to the public at large, the Govt. of Delhi took the first initiative of its kind in the country by establishing Delhi Dispute Resolution Society (Regd.) under the Department of Law, Justice & Legislative Affairs, Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
It is unique, in as much as for the first time in the country the Delhi Government and the High Court of Delhi, who together share common concern of bringing to the public a judicial system which is both expeditious and people friendly, have entered into Joint Venture by setting up Delhi Dispute Resolution Society (Regd.) under Department of Law, Justice & Legislative Affairs. The Society is a balanced amalgam of the Bureaucrats and the Judiciary.
